Football league introduces new rules to combat racism in the sport

Liverpool Manager Arne Slot Comments on Racism in Football

Liverpool manager Arne Slot has emphasized the need for increased efforts to prevent racism in football following an incident involving Real Madrid’s Vinicius Junior at a Champions League playoff match against Benfica.

Vinicius accused Benfica’s Gianluca Prestianni of directing a racist slur at him during the game, which was halted for 11 minutes under FIFA’s antiracism protocol. UEFA is currently reviewing the incident.

Slot stated that “you can never do enough” to prevent racism in football and expressed his hope that his players would address such incidents immediately. He also praised the referee for following protocol in the game.

Regarding Liverpool’s upcoming match against Nottingham Forest, Slot noted that the team has improved over the past few months and is now sixth in the Premier League table with 42 points from 26 games. He attributed this improvement to increased fitness and better performance at set-pieces.

Slot also mentioned that defender Joe Gomez will start if needed, despite Jeremie Frimpong being out of the game due to injury. The team’s manager expressed his confidence in their ability to compete against Forest, who are currently struggling with relegation concerns.

The match between Liverpool and Nottingham Forest is scheduled for Sunday.
