A Sentencing Has Been Imposed on Kenneth Iwamasa in Connection with Matthew Perry’s Death
Kenneth Iwamasa, the former personal assistant to actor Matthew Perry, has been sentenced to 41 months in prison for his role in Perry’s death from a fatal dose of ketamine. The sentencing took place in a Los Angeles courtroom on Wednesday.
As part of a plea agreement, Iwamasa testified that he injected Perry with ketamine at the actor’s request on October 28, 2023. He had no medical training and left to run errands before returning to find Perry’s lifeless body floating in a hot tub. The autopsy report confirmed that Perry died from the acute effects of ketamine.
Iwamasa’s sentence concludes the prosecution of five individuals alleged to have facilitated Perry’s death by helping him access ketamine without proper medical supervision. Four other people involved in Perry’s overdose death have also been convicted and sentenced: Erik Fleming, a certified drug counsellor, received a two-year prison term; Mark Chavez, a doctor, was sentenced to eight months of home detention for conspiracy to distribute ketamine; Salvador Plasencia, another doctor, received a two-and-a-half-year federal prison sentence; and Jasveen Sangha, a British American woman, was given a 15-year prison term.
Perry, who played the character Chandler Bing in the sitcom Friends, had been struggling with alcoholism and drug addiction for years. Prosecutors described Iwamasa as Perry’s “enabler and supplier” who continued to give him injections despite troubling incidents.
