Former FBI Director Robert Mueller Dies at 81
Robert Mueller, the former director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), has passed away at the age of 81. His family announced the news on Saturday, stating that they are “sharing the news with deep sadness.” They also requested that their privacy be respected.
Mueller was appointed as FBI director in September 2001 by President George Bush, just one week before the 9/11 attacks. Following the attacks, he played a key role in shifting the FBI’s focus from combating crime to countering national security risks. In 2013, Mueller stepped down from his position at the bureau.
In 2017, Mueller was appointed as special counsel to oversee the Justice Department’s investigation into potential Russian interference in the 2016 US presidential election. The investigation led to the conclusion that Donald Trump had secured his first term as president over Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton.
Mueller is survived by his wife and two children. A statement from his family has been released, asking for privacy at this time.
