FIFA Ethics Committee Imposes Five-Year Ban on Former General Secretary Ian Alves
The FIFA Ethics Committee has imposed a five-year ban on former Guyana Football Federation (GFF) General Secretary Ian Alves from all football-related activities. The decision was made after the committee found that Alves had sexually harassed female staff members.
As part of the ruling, Alves has also been fined 20,000 Swiss francs ($25,500), which is in accordance with the provisions of the FIFA Code of Ethics. The fine is related to breaches of the code’s sections on protecting physical and mental integrity, abuse of position, and general duties.
The ban and fine were announced after a review of written statements from the victims, documents provided by the GFF, submissions from Alves, and other evidence gathered during the investigation. Alves had previously stepped down from his position in 2024.
According to FIFA, the decision reflects the organization’s strict stance against all forms of abuse in football. The full grounds for the ruling will be communicated within 60 days, as required by the Code of Ethics.
