Former Prince Andrew faces arrest in connection with UK police investigation

Former UK Prince Andrew Released Under Investigation

Prince Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, 66, was released from custody after being questioned by detectives from Thames Valley Police regarding allegations of misconduct in public office. The investigation is related to his links with late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

Mountbatten-Windsor was born on February 19, 1960, and served in the Royal Navy for 22 years before pursuing a career as a trade envoy between 2001 and 2011. During this time, he maintained a long-term friendship with Epstein, who was jailed in 2008 for child sex offenses.

In January, the US Department of Justice released over three million documents related to Epstein’s case, including emails from Mountbatten-Windsor to the financier. The investigation is focused on allegations that Mountbatten-Windsor shared confidential government information with Epstein while serving as a UK trade envoy.

Mountbatten-Windsor was arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office and was released under investigation after 24 hours. He had previously been living at Royal Lodge in Windsor, but has since moved to Wood Farm on his brother’s estate in Norfolk.

The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) describes the offence as a serious wilful abuse or neglect of the power or responsibilities of the public office held. A conviction for this offence carries a maximum sentence of life imprisonment.

Mountbatten-Windsor is the eighth in line to the throne and has been at the center of controversy surrounding his friendship with Epstein. The investigation into his arrest marks an unprecedented turn of events for the royal family.
