Four people have been killed and several others injured in Israeli strikes in southern Lebanon, according to reports from the Lebanese National News Agency (NNA). Two of the fatalities occurred in a car attack in the village of at-Tiri, while another strike targeted a main road linking the town with Haddatha. The Red Cross and rescue workers were unable to reach two journalists who were injured in the attacks.
The journalists, Amal Khalil and Zeinab Faraj, from local media outlet Al Akhbar, were reportedly trying to reach the site of an earlier Israeli drone strike on a car that killed two civilians. They were unable to be reached by rescue workers due to continued Israeli attacks in the area.
Lebanese Information Minister Paul Morcos said the government had been in contact with the UN peacekeeping mission and the Lebanese army regarding reports of journalists being besieged and prevented from reaching them. The Israeli military has denied preventing rescue services from reaching the site of an attack in at-Tiri, stating that it does not target journalists.
Separately, two people were killed and several others injured in an Israeli attack on the town of Yahmar al-Shaqif. Hezbollah claimed to have attacked an Israeli artillery position with a drone in response to what it said was an Israeli violation of the ceasefire.
The latest attacks come ahead of planned talks between Lebanese and Israeli ambassadors in Washington, which are set to take place on Sunday. The US-brokered ceasefire is due to expire on the same day.
