A 32-year-old man was shot and killed by a Pierce County sheriff’s deputy after stabbing four people to death outside a residence on the Key Peninsula in Washington state. The incident occurred on Tuesday morning.
Deputies from the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched at approximately 8:41am local time following reports of a suspect violating a no-contact order. Officers obtained a copy of the order, but found it was not yet valid due to its un served status. They left to deliver the order in person when the suspect allegedly began stabbing people outside the residence.
Multiple witnesses reported seeing the attack at approximately 9:30am local time. It took about three minutes for the first deputy to arrive and shots were fired at 9:33am local time. The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene, while three of the victims died there and a fourth was rushed to a hospital.
The residence where the stabbing occurred appears to belong to a woman who filed for a one-year protection order against her son. Court records show she accused him of making threatening remarks and having mental health and substance abuse issues. The suspect’s identity and those of the victims have yet to be confirmed publicly.
An ongoing investigation led by the Pierce County Force Investigation Team is examining the deputy-involved shooting and the stabbings.
