France Defeats Brazil 2-1 in Friendly Match Ahead of World Cup 2026
In a friendly match held in the United States, France secured a 2-1 victory over Brazil on Thursday. The match, which took place at Gillette Stadium, was attended by a crowd of 66,215 spectators.
France forward Kylian Mbappe scored an early goal to give his team a 1-0 lead in the 32nd minute. He then assisted in the second goal, which was converted by Hugo Ekitike in the 65th minute. Brazil’s Bremer cut the deficit to 2-1 in the 78th minute.
The match went ahead without any reported issues, despite concerns over security costs and a simmering feud between the town of Foxborough and World Cup organizers. The organizing committee had previously agreed to make the payment for security costs in advance, and the town had approved the necessary entertainment license.
To accommodate FIFA requirements, a grass field was installed at the stadium, replacing the artificial turf that had been used for previous events. The crowd was predominantly composed of Brazilian fans, with only a few French supporters present.
The match featured a mid-game “cooling break” to allow players to rest and hydrate, as announced by FIFA earlier this year. This measure is set to be included in all World Cup 2026 games, regardless of the temperature on the pitch.
France’s victory marked an important test for both teams ahead of the upcoming World Cup 2026. If France and Brazil both win their groups, they will meet in the final match.
