France defeats Colombia 3-1 in international soccer match

France Secures 3-1 Win Over Colombia in Pre-World Cup Friendly

In a friendly match played at the Washington Commanders’ stadium in Landover, Maryland, France defeated Colombia 3-1 on Sunday. The win marked the team’s second triumph in the United States before coach Didier Deschamps names his World Cup squad.

France made several changes to their starting lineup, with Paris Saint-Germain forward Desire Doue scoring twice for the team. Doue opened the scoring after 30 minutes when Crystal Palace defender Daniel Munoz inadvertently deflected a low drive from the edge of the box into the net. Inter Milan striker Marcus Thuram then headed in a cross from Monaco playmaker Maghnes Akliouche just before half-time to double France’s advantage.

Thuram also provided an assist for Doue’s second goal on 56 minutes, as Jaminton Campaz scored a consolation goal for Colombia moments later. Real Madrid star Kylian Mbappe, who recently returned from a knee injury, made his 96th appearance for France and remains one goal away from equalling the country’s all-time scoring record.

The match marked the final outing before Deschamps names his World Cup squad in May. Despite some criticism over their playing style, France demonstrated their attacking firepower and depth with several changes to their lineup. The team will now head into the June 11-July 19 World Cup with growing certainty ahead of Deschamps’ final tournament in charge.
