Gaza Residents Anticipate Uncertain New Year Amid Ongoing Conflict

Gaza Experiences Continued Conflict and Humanitarian Crisis in 2025

A 45-day ceasefire was observed in March, providing a brief respite from ongoing violence. However, this period of relative calm was short-lived, with the Israeli army resuming its campaign of killing and destruction in March, resulting in over 400 fatalities.

In April, signs of mass starvation began to appear, while in May, the Israeli army forcibly displaced the author and their family from their home in eastern Khan Younis. By the end of the month, Israel had launched a new initiative, dubbed the “Gaza Humanitarian Foundation,” which distributed food to starving Palestinians in the form of “hunger games.”

In June, the author witnessed firsthand the devastating effects of this program, seeing people crawling on hot sand to obtain food and young men fighting over limited supplies. The Israeli army continued its campaign of destruction, flattening homes and neighborhoods, including the author’s.

By August, the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) confirmed that Gaza was experiencing famine, with residents struggling to access basic necessities. In September, the Israeli army ordered another mass displacement, forcing hundreds of thousands into relocation.

A ceasefire agreement was announced in October, but this did not halt the violence. Instead, Israel continued to bomb the area, transforming its campaign from a high-intensity killing spree to a more low-key operation. The author’s suspicions were confirmed in November, as Israel resumed its attacks.

Throughout 2025, Gaza faced significant humanitarian challenges, including displacement, starvation, and violence. The Israeli government’s actions had a profound impact on the local population, resulting in widespread loss of life and property.
