Germany summons Russian ambassador over direct threats to national security

Berlin Summons Russian Ambassador Over Threats Against Targets in Germany

The German government has summoned the Russian ambassador to address “direct threats” against targets in Germany, according to a statement from the Federal Foreign Office on Monday. The threats, which were not specified, are aimed at undermining support for Ukraine in its conflict with Russia.

A social media post from the foreign ministry stated that such threats and espionage activities in Germany are “completely unacceptable.” No comment was provided by the Russian embassy.

Last week, Russia’s Ministry of Defence published a list of 21 companies believed to be subsidiaries of Ukrainian defence companies or suppliers of key components. At least three German firms were listed as supplying drones to Ukraine. The post included a suggestion that those locations could be targeted.

Germany and Ukraine recently agreed on a strategic defence partnership, which includes cooperation in drone production and a boost for Kyiv’s air defences. As part of the agreement, Germany will continue supporting Ukraine’s drone industry and establishing drone co-production ventures.

A German woman was arrested by Russian authorities last week on suspicion of being part of an alleged Ukrainian-backed plot to blow up a services facility. The arrest took place in Pyatigorsk, Caucasus region.
