Berlin Summons Russian Ambassador Over “Direct Threats” Against Targets in Germany
The German government has summoned the Russian ambassador to address what it describes as “direct threats” against targets in Germany. According to a statement from the Federal Foreign Office, these threats are aimed at undermining support for Ukraine in its conflict with Russia.
The Russian embassy has not commented on the matter. Last week, Russia’s Ministry of Defence published a list of 21 companies that Moscow claims are subsidiaries of Ukrainian defence companies or suppliers of key components. At least three German firms were listed as supplying drones to Ukraine.
A statement from the Federal Foreign Office stated that such threats and espionage activities in Germany are “completely unacceptable”. The government has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Ukraine, including cooperation in drone production and air defences.
Germany and Ukraine recently agreed on a strategic defence partnership, which includes joint efforts in drone production and air defence. As part of this agreement, Germany will continue to support Ukraine’s drone industry and establish co-production ventures.
In related news, Russian authorities have arrested a German woman accused of being involved in an alleged plot to blow up a services facility in the Caucasus city of Pyatigorsk. The German government has declined to comment on the arrest due to privacy concerns.
