Iran Confirms Attacks on US Bases Across Middle East
Iran has confirmed targeting several US assets across the Gulf Arab states, according to reports from the Fars news agency. The attacks, which occurred in response to a joint operation by the US and Israel, have been attributed to the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). The IRGC claimed that all Israeli and US military targets in the region were struck by Iranian missiles.
The attacks targeted Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates, where US airbases are located. In Bahrain, a missile attack was reported to have hit the headquarters of the US Navy’s 5th Fleet, which is hosted by the country. The government described the attack as “treacherous” and “a blatant violation of the kingdom’s sovereignty and security”.
In Kuwait, explosions were reported, with the Defense Ministry confirming that several attacks were thwarted before reaching Qatari territory. Qatar has also closed its airspace following the attacks.
The United Arab Emirates has also closed its airspace, while Oman remains unaffected by the attacks. The GCC (Gulf Cooperation Council) has been established to promote economic, security, cultural, and social cooperation among its six member states: Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE.
Reports from Al Jazeera Arabic indicate that at least one person was killed in Abu Dhabi after several missiles launched from Iran were intercepted. The situation remains fluid, with ongoing reports of explosions and military activity in the region.
