Gulf Nations Collaborate with Military Allies in Iran Conflict Efforts

Gulf States Receive Military Support Amid Iranian Attacks

The Gulf states have been facing increasing attacks from Iran, with multiple countries in the region coming under drone strikes. On Friday, Saudi Arabia intercepted several waves of Iranian drones, while Kuwait Petroleum Corporation reported that its Mina al-Ahmadi refinery had been targeted by early-morning drone attacks.

Gulf countries have maintained that their defenses are sufficient to repel these attacks, but they also have military partnerships and agreements in place with other countries. These partnerships include a US military base in Qatar, known as Al Udeid, which hosts US assets and troops. The base is also home to the Qatar Emiri Air Force and foreign forces from the UK and other countries.

The US has provided significant support to Qatar through Foreign Military Sales (FMS), including the Patriot long-range missile system and attack helicopters. In January, the US State Department announced recent sales to Qatar, which included advanced military equipment.

In addition to its partnership with the US, Qatar also collaborates with Turkey through defense cooperation agreements and joint training exercises. The UK has strengthened ties with Qatar through joint training and exercises, and France is a key supplier of weapons to the country.

The UK has recently announced plans to send four additional Typhoon fighter jets to Qatar to support its defense efforts. However, Prime Minister Keir Starmer has stated that the UK will not become involved in the ongoing war between Iran and Israel.

Saudi Arabia also hosts US military assets and personnel at the Prince Sultan Air Base, which is located near Al Kharj, southeast of Riyadh. The country’s military partnerships with other nations may provide additional support to Gulf states facing Iranian attacks.
