Gunman kills one Canadian woman and injures six at Mexicos Teotihuacan

Incident at Teotihuacan Pyramids Results in Fatal Shooting and Injuries

A shooting incident occurred on Monday outside Mexico’s Teotihuacan pyramids, a popular tourist destination near Mexico City. According to authorities, one Canadian woman was fatally shot, while six others were injured.

The perpetrator died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound at the scene. Four of the injured victims suffered gunshot wounds, and two others sustained injuries from falls. Local officials stated that medical care is being provided to those affected, with personnel from the State Secretariat of Security on site.

Mexico’s President Claudia Sheinbaum has instructed authorities to thoroughly investigate the incident. Her government is in contact with the Canadian embassy, and she has expressed her concern for the situation. The president also announced that personnel from the Secretariat of the Interior and Culture are en route to provide assistance and accompaniment at the site.

The Teotihuacan pyramids are an important cultural center in Mesoamerica. The incident occurred less than two months before the start of the FIFA World Cup, which Mexico will co-host with the United States and Canada. In February, violence erupted across parts of Mexico following the killing of Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel.

The Mexican government has confirmed that it is taking steps to address concerns over security in the country.
