Houitis Consider Joining Iran in Conflict Against Israel and US

Yemen’s Ansar Allah Group Vows to Consider All Options Amid Escalating Tensions

The Yemeni armed group, Ansar Allah, also known as the Houthis, has stated that all options are on the table. The US-Israeli conflict with Iran continues to escalate, and the Houthis have maintained a neutral stance thus far. However, they have expressed their direct concern over the situation and indicated that they may take a position alongside Iran.

In recent years, the Houthis have launched attacks against Israel and shipping in the Red Sea. If a new front opens up, it could further disrupt global trade through another maritime gateway. The Strait of Hormuz is already experiencing significant disruptions to shipping, resulting in substantial losses worldwide.

The Houthis’ potential involvement in the conflict has sparked interest among experts. Farea al-Muslimi, research fellow at Chatham House, and Khaled Batarfi, a political analyst specializing in Saudi Arabian foreign policy, have weighed in on the situation. Rockford Weitz, director of the Fletcher Maritime Studies programme at Tufts University, also provided insight into the potential implications.

The Houthis’ decision to take a position alongside Iran could have significant consequences for the region. The involvement of multiple parties in the conflict could lead to increased instability and further disruptions to global trade.
