Houthis Involvement to Have Significant Impact on Ongoing Conflict in Yemen

Yemen’s Ansar Allah, also known as the Houthis, have launched missiles towards Israel. The group has made this move in support of Iran, which it has pledged to defend since the start of the conflict a month ago.

The launch marks an escalation in the US-Israel war on Iran. Yemen’s Ansar Allah has previously threatened to join the conflict and has now followed through on that threat. There are concerns that the group could target shipping in the Red Sea, an area it has attacked before. This would add to disruptions already caused by Iran’s blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.

The US and Israel have not yet commented on potential retaliation for the missile launch. However, experts say that both countries may take action in response. Hisham Al-Omeisy, senior Yemen adviser at the European Institute of Peace, has expressed concerns about the implications of this move. Michael Hellyer, senior associate fellow in defence and security studies at the Royal United Services Institute, has also weighed in on the potential consequences.

Michael Mulroy, former US deputy assistant secretary of defence for the Middle East, is expected to provide further insight into the situation. The international community is watching closely as tensions between Israel, the US, and Iran continue to escalate.
