ICC Chief Prosecutor Khan Cleared of Sexual Misconduct Allegations

International Criminal Court Clears Chief Prosecutor Karim Khan of Allegations

A panel of three judges has submitted a report to the International Criminal Court’s oversight body, clearing chief prosecutor Karim Khan of all wrongdoing related to allegations of sexual misconduct. The report was submitted to the Bureau of the Assembly of States Parties (ASP) on March 9.

The ASP had commissioned an investigation into the allegations in November 2024, following a complaint from a member of Khan’s office. A second woman later came forward with similar allegations, describing Khan’s behavior as a “constant onslaught” of advances. Khan has denied all allegations and took voluntary leave from his position at the ICC in May.

The ASP met on Monday to discuss its response to the panel’s report. Under the court’s rules, if the bureau determines that no misconduct has occurred, the investigation should be closed. The ASP has 30 days to make a preliminary assessment of the allegations, followed by 30 days for Khan to respond and another 30 days for the bureau to make a decision.

Khan declined to comment on the report. The allegations surfaced during a time when Khan’s office was pursuing investigations into alleged war crimes and genocide in Gaza and the occupied Palestinian territory.
