India and Israel to Enhance Cooperation in Trade and Defence Areas

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi concluded a two-day visit to Israel, marking the first time he has visited the country since taking office in 2014. During his trip, Modi and Israeli counterpart Benjamin Netanyahu signed over 12 bilateral agreements, including collaborations on defense technology, artificial intelligence, and cybersecurity.

The agreements aim to enhance cooperation between the two countries in these areas, with a focus on innovation and technological advancements. Netanyahu stated that “the future belongs to those who innovate” and expressed his country’s commitment to seizing the future through collaboration with India.

In addition to the bilateral agreements, Israel agreed to allow an additional 50,000 Indian nationals into the country, following new restrictions on Palestinian workers in Gaza. The visit has drawn criticism at home, particularly amid ongoing tensions over Israel’s actions in Gaza, which have resulted in the deaths of over 72,000 people.

A joint statement issued by the two leaders referenced recent attacks on Israel, including a Hamas-led attack on October 7, 2023, and an April 2025 attack in Indian-controlled Kashmir. Both countries condemned these incidents as acts of terrorism.

The visit has further solidified India’s strategic ties with Israel, which have been expanding since Modi took office. The leaders also praised the United States’ plan to advance a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
