India Defeats Zimbabwe by 72 Runs in T20 World Cup Match
In a high-scoring match at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, India defeated Zimbabwe by 72 runs to keep their chances of making it to the semifinals alive. The match was part of the Super Eight stage of the tournament.
India set a target of 257 runs for Zimbabwe, which they successfully defended against despite a spirited effort from the African side. Zimbabwe’s Brian Bennett scored 97 not out in his innings, but the team ultimately fell short.
Pace bowler Arshdeep Singh took 3-24 off four overs and was supported by Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya, who both went wicketless but restricted Zimbabwe to 184-6. Varun Chakravarthy, Axar Patel, and Shivam Dube also picked up a wicket each.
India’s batting lineup saw Sanju Samson score 24 runs off 15 balls, including a six on the second ball of his innings. Abhishek Sharma top-scored with 55 off 30 balls, hitting four fours and four sixes. Pandya’s 23-ball-50 at the end of the innings helped propel India towards the 250-plus-run mark.
The match has set up a virtual quarterfinal against the West Indies for India, while Zimbabwe will face South Africa in their final Group 1 match on Sunday.
