Indian Satirical Movement’s Website Taken Down, Founder Accuses Government
The website of an online satirical political movement in India has been taken down by the government, according to its founder Abhijeet Dipke. The CJP (Cockroach Janta Party) was launched last week as a response to comments made by Chief Justice Surya Kant regarding unemployed young people.
Dipke also reported that his personal Instagram account and the CJP’s Instagram page had been hacked. The CJP’s Instagram page has attracted over 22 million followers since its launch. In comparison, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has more than nine million followers.
The movement is campaigning for Indian Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan to resign due to allegations of leaked exam papers that forced the cancellation of a government-run medical entrance test. One million people have signed up to join the movement in the past week, and 600,000 have signed the petition calling for Pradhan’s resignation.
Dipke stated that his social media accounts were compromised, along with those of the CJP. The founder also expressed frustration with the government’s actions, saying “Those in power think citizens are cockroaches and parasites.”
