India’s Twenty20 World Cup Squad Takes Hit with Knee Injury to Harshit Rana
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced that fast bowler Harshit Rana will not be participating in the tournament due to a knee injury. The injury occurred during a warm-up match against South Africa on Wednesday, where Rana bowled just one over before leaving the field.
Rana’s absence from the team has been confirmed by the International Cricket Council (ICC), who have approved Mohammed Siraj as his replacement. Siraj will now take Rana’s place in the squad.
The BCCI had previously stated that Rana’s injury did not appear to be severe, but it would still impact the team’s depth. Skipper Suryakumar Yadav acknowledged the loss of Rana, saying that the team has enough players to adapt to the change.
The Indian team is looking to become the first team in T20 World Cup history to successfully defend their title and also win as hosts. The squad currently consists of several seam bowlers, including Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh, who will likely share new-ball duties. Hardik Pandya and Shivam Dube are also expected to contribute with their all-round skills.
The team’s lineup includes Suryakumar Yadav (captain), Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson (wicketkeeper), Ishan Kishan (wicketkeeper), Tilak Varma, Hardik Pandya, Shivam Dube, Axar Patel (vice-captain), Rinku Singh, Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh, Kuldeep Yadav, Varun Chakaravarthy, Washington Sundar, and Mohammed Siraj.
