India Defeats United States in Twenty20 World Cup Match
India secured a 29-run victory over the United States in their group A contest at the Wankhede Stadium on Saturday. The match saw India recover from a challenging 77-6 to post a total of 161-9, with captain Suryakumar Yadav scoring an unbeaten 84 runs off 49 balls.
The US team was bowled out for 132-8 in response, despite a decent performance by Sanjay Krishnamurthi and Milind Kumar, who shared a 58-run stand. The match saw several key moments, including a three-wicket haul by Shadley van Schalkwyk in the final Powerplay over, which left India reeling on 46-4.
India’s top-order batters struggled early on, with opener Abhishek Sharma falling for a first-ball duck and Shivam Dube departing with a golden duck. However, Suryakumar Yadav responded to the crisis with a captain’s knock, scoring 36 runs in the final over to seal India’s victory.
The match was played without Jasprit Bumrah, who missed due to illness, and Harshit Rana, who was replaced by Mohammed Siraj after suffering a thigh injury. Siraj performed well, taking three wickets, while Arshdeep Singh also contributed with two wickets.
In other group A matches, the Netherlands narrowly lost to Pakistan in Colombo, while West Indies thrashed Scotland by 35 runs in Kolkata. The results bring India one step closer to defending their title as co-hosts of the Twenty20 World Cup.
