Japan Expands Cooperation on Security, Supply Chains, and Sustainable Development with Qatar

In an effort to adapt to a changing world, Japan has strengthened its cooperation with Qatar in various areas, including security, supply chains, and sustainable development. The move comes as the global landscape continues to shift, with the Indo-Pacific region facing significant challenges.

Ten years ago, Prime Minister Abe introduced the concept of a Free and Open Indo-Pacific (FOIP), which aimed to promote economic growth and stability in the region. Today, Japan is revising its approach to FOIP, prioritizing economic security and building resilient supply chains.

Japan has also emphasized the importance of maritime security, particularly in the Strait of Hormuz, a critical chokepoint for global logistics. The country has joined international efforts to ensure the free and safe navigation of vessels from all nations through this strategic waterway.

In addition, Japan has deepened its relations with Qatar and other countries in the Middle East, aiming to promote regional stability and shared prosperity. The country’s security policy is guided by a set of national defense-oriented documents, which prioritize the protection of Japanese interests while adhering to international law.

Japan’s commitment to upholding freedom and the rule of law remains unchanged, as does its dedication to promoting diversity, inclusiveness, and openness. The country will continue to work closely with the international community to address global challenges and maintain a free and open international order.

Through these efforts, Japan aims to reinforce its defense capabilities in response to an increasingly complex security environment. The country’s national defense strategy is guided by three key documents, which outline its approach to addressing emerging threats and promoting regional stability.

By strengthening its cooperation with Qatar and other partners, Japan seeks to promote peace and prosperity in the region while upholding its commitment to international law and cooperation.
