Inter Miami Beats New York City FC 3-2 at Yankee Stadium
In a thrilling match, Inter Miami secured their first Major League Soccer (MLS) win since March 7, defeating New York City FC 3-2 at Yankee Stadium on Sunday. The victory marked a comeback for the team, which had been eliminated from the CONCACAF Champions Cup earlier in the week.
Micael dos Santos Silva’s goal in the 74th minute proved to be the decisive moment, as he headed home a ball from Noah Allen that found its way past NYCFC goalkeeper Matt Freese. The goal gave Inter Miami their first win of the season and lifted their record to 3-1-1.
Lionel Messi scored his 901st career goal in the match, while Gonzalo Lujan also notched his first career MLS goal for Inter Miami. The team’s comeback victory marked a significant improvement after being eliminated from the CONCACAF Champions Cup on Wednesday.
New York City FC suffered their first defeat of the season and snapped a three-game winning streak despite goals from Nicolas Fernandez Mercau and Agustin Ojeda. Maxi Moralez delivered an assist to Ojeda in the 59th minute, but Inter Miami equalized through Messi’s goal two minutes later.
The match saw several notable moments, including Messi’s close calls on multiple occasions and a stunning free kick goal from Fernandez Mercau that levelled the score at 2-2. German Berterame appeared to extend Inter Miami’s lead in the 79th minute, but his goal was ruled offside. In the end, Inter Miami goalkeeper Dayne St Clair made a crucial save late in stoppage time to preserve the team’s victory.
