International Womens Day Marches Condemn War, Abuse, and Systemic Oppression Globally

Thousands of Demonstrators Take to Streets Worldwide to Mark International Women’s Day

Demonstrations were held across the globe on International Women’s Day, a day marked by the United Nations since 1977. The events took place in various cities and countries, with participants focusing on several key issues.

In Spain, thousands gathered in major cities to protest the US-Israeli war on Iran. Yolanda Diaz, Spain’s second deputy prime minister, stated that the government is committed to stopping the war and promoting peace. In France, a march was held to raise awareness about sexual violence, with participants calling for an end to such crimes.

In the United States, activists gathered at Zorro Ranch in Albuquerque, New Mexico, to protest the alleged involvement of Jeffrey Epstein, a convicted sex offender who is accused of abusing and trafficking underage girls and young women. In New York, protesters demonstrated outside Trump Tower after FBI documents were released describing interviews with a woman alleging President Donald Trump’s sexual assault when she was a minor.

In Ecuador, Indigenous groups gathered in Puyo to raise concerns about environmental degradation and oil expansion. In Brazil, marches took place in response to the alleged gang rape of a 17-year-old girl in Rio de Janeiro’s Copacabana neighborhood. In Pakistan, police briefly detained women’s rights activists attempting to hold a rally despite a government ban on public gatherings.

The events marked International Women’s Day, which is officially recognized by the United Nations since 1977.
