Iran accuses US and Israel of fueling Hormuz tensions

Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has called on the international community to condemn the US and Israel’s military actions in the region, citing disruptions to shipping in the Strait of Hormuz as a result.
In a phone conversation with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, Araghchi stated that every country and international institution concerned with peace and security must take action against the US and Israel. He also emphasized the need for an “end to their military aggression against the Iranian nation”.
The Strait of Hormuz, a critical global artery, has seen increased tensions since the start of the conflict on February 28. The strait is currently open, but Araghchi described it as “closed” to enemies.
Several nations have been negotiating with Iran for safe passage through the strait. US President Donald Trump has called for a naval coalition to secure the waterway, while European Union foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas has expressed support for diplomatic solutions to guarantee transit.
The International Maritime Organization (IMO) has stated that naval escorts through the Strait of Hormuz would not provide 100% guarantees for ship safety. Iraq’s Oil Minister Hayan Abdul-Ghani has confirmed an agreement with Iran for his country’s oil tankers to cross the strait, while India’s Ministry of External Affairs spokesman has denied reports of discussions regarding the return of seized Iranian-linked tankers.
The situation remains fluid, with ongoing negotiations and diplomatic efforts aimed at resolving the crisis.
