Iran Conflict Enters 54th Day Amid Trumps Ceasefire Extension

US Extends Ceasefire with Iran, Naval Blockade to Remain

The United States has announced an extension of the current ceasefire with Iran, pending the submission of Tehran’s latest proposal for ending the conflict. According to President Donald Trump, the US will maintain diplomatic channels while exerting pressure on Iran until negotiations are concluded.

However, the naval blockade imposed on Iranian ports by the US Navy is set to continue, despite Iranian objections. The Iranian government has stated that the blockade constitutes a violation of the ceasefire and will not participate in talks under the “shadow of threats” or with the blockade in place.

Separately, violence continues to erupt across the region. In the occupied West Bank, Israeli settlers have been involved in clashes that resulted in the deaths of two people, including a child. Additionally, Israeli strikes in southern Lebanon have wounded civilians and damaged homes, despite a 10-day ceasefire.

The fragile situation highlights the challenges facing diplomatic efforts between the US and Iran. The extension of the ceasefire is seen as a step towards resolving tensions, but the ongoing naval blockade has raised concerns about the feasibility of negotiations.
