Regional Tensions Escalate Amid Ongoing Conflict
A week into the conflict between Israel, the US, and Iran, concerns are mounting over potential regional spillover. The war began with devastating strikes on Tehran, which quickly spread to neighboring countries that have been targeted by hundreds of Iranian missiles and drones. Attacks have also been reported in countries beyond the region.
Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian has issued an apology to Gulf states, stating that the country will limit its attacks on them in the future. However, there is no indication that the conflict between Israel and the US will be resolved anytime soon.
Experts are weighing in on the potential consequences of this conflict. Alam Saleh, a senior lecturer in Iranian Studies at Australian National University, has expressed concerns about the regional implications. Michael O’Hanlon, Senior Fellow and Director of Research in Foreign Policy at the Brookings Institution, notes that the conflict could potentially open new fronts.
Serhan Afacan, Director of the Center of Iranian Studies in Ankara, Turkey, is also providing insight into the situation. The ongoing conflict has sparked concerns about its potential to spread beyond the region.
