Iran considers US proposal for ceasefire amid escalating regional tensions

Pakistani Military Chief to Travel to Iran for Talks

According to Iranian media reports, Pakistani military chief Field Marshal Asim Munir is scheduled to travel to Tehran on Thursday for “talks and consultations” with Iranian authorities. This development comes as efforts to bring an end to the nearly three-month US-Israel war on Iran intensify.

Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei stated that the Iranians have received US views and are reviewing them, according to the Iranian state agency Nour News. Pakistani Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi arrived in Iran on Wednesday for his second visit in less than a week to discuss Washington’s latest proposal.

Pakistan hosted direct negotiations between US and Iranian officials in April, which ultimately failed due to disagreements over demands. Munir’s announced visit follows US President Donald Trump’s warning that talks are on the “borderline” between a deal and renewed strikes. Trump stated that if the right answers are not received, the situation could escalate quickly.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi expressed readiness for either talks or a return to fighting, stating that his ministry is prepared to engage in diplomacy and negotiation as needed. Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps warned against renewed attacks, stating that aggression against Iran would lead to a regional war extending beyond the region.

The US has submitted its latest proposal to Iran, which includes demands such as Iranian control of the Strait of Hormuz, reparations for war damage, lifting of sanctions, and release of frozen assets. The proposal is based on Tehran’s original 14-point proposal, which was presented in April.
