Iran Reports 1,937 War Dead in Less Than a Month
The Iranian Red Crescent is conducting a search for survivors trapped under rubble following US-Israeli strikes on Tehran and Qom. The attacks targeted residential areas in both cities.
In Qom, six people were killed in air raids targeting three residential houses on Friday, according to local media. The deputy governor of Qom confirmed the number of injured remained unknown. In Tehran, Israeli military operations described as targeting Iranian leadership’s infrastructure were reported, with sounds of air defense systems triggered by drone attacks or threats.
A residential complex in Urmia was targeted overnight in a direct missile attack, resulting in four completely destroyed buildings and multiple casualties. The West Azerbaijan province’s crisis management director-general confirmed the strike left citizens killed and injured.
Iran has announced nearly 2,000 war dead in less than a month, with at least 1,937 people reported killed and almost 25,000 injured. Women and children accounted for 240 and 212 of the war dead, respectively.
Raid reports also emerged in Karaj and Isfahan’s industrial complex. The Norwegian Refugee Council warned that Iranians are “exhausted and traumatised”, with millions fleeing in search of safety. The organization stated that civilians are paying the highest price for this war.
The United Nations Security Council scheduled a closed consultation on Iran at 10am New York time on Friday, following Iran’s announcement of its conditions for ceasefire negotiations. The US has scheduled the meeting and laid out its own conditions, including an end to “aggressive acts of assassination” and measures to ensure war does not recur.
Meanwhile, Israel continues its ground invasion into Lebanon, with a military warning issued to residents of the village of Sajd, ordering them to leave immediately due to potential Israeli action.
