Iran ready for war with US if provoked over military capabilities

US Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has stated that his country is prepared for any scenario, including war, in response to potential US military intervention. In an exclusive interview with Al Jazeera Arabic, Araghchi emphasized the need for dialogue between the two nations amid ongoing unrest in Iran.
Araghchi acknowledged that channels of communication with the US are open, but stressed that Iran’s military preparedness has increased significantly since last year’s 12-day conflict. He also noted that his country is willing to engage in nuclear negotiations, provided that they take place without threats or dictates.
US President Donald Trump had previously threatened to take military action against Iran in response to its crackdown on antigovernment protests. Araghchi responded by saying that if the US wants to “test” its military capabilities, Iran is ready for it. However, he also expressed hope that Washington would choose a more diplomatic approach.
Araghchi’s comments follow reports of over 100 security personnel killed in recent days, with opposition activists claiming a higher death toll. The Iranian government has blamed the US and Israel for provoking unrest in the country. Al Jazeera has been unable to independently verify the figures due to an ongoing internet blackout.
The US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff’s communications with Araghchi have continued despite the protests, according to the foreign minister. However, Araghchi stated that Washington’s proposed ideas and threats are incompatible with Iran’s position. He also questioned whether the US is ready for fair and just negotiations.
In a separate development, White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt accused Iran of sending different messages to the US in private compared to its public statements. The Wall Street Journal reported that the White House is weighing Iran’s offer to engage in further military talks despite Trump’s consideration of strikes on the country.
