US President Donald Trump has made a statement on social media, warning that Washington “hasn’t even started destroying what’s left in Iran”. He also posted footage of a US strike on a newly built bridge linking Tehran to Karaj, which was attacked and damaged, killing eight people and injuring 95 others. The B1 bridge, set to open this year, is now unusable.
Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has condemned the targeting of civilian infrastructure, stating that such actions “convey the defeat and moral collapse of an enemy in disarray”. He also warned against any “provocative action”, including at the United Nations Security Council, ahead of a proposed resolution on the Strait of Hormuz.
Satellite imagery has shown smoke rising from Iran’s Qeshm island, near the strategic waterway. Iranian media has published a list of major regional bridges that could be targeted following the Karaj strike. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has also struck US-linked industrial sites in the Gulf.
The Pasteur Institute of Iran, a major research centre involved in combating diseases such as cholera and COVID-19, has been severely damaged in a US and Israeli strike. The health ministry described the attack as “a direct assault on international health security”. The World Health Organization (WHO) has verified more than 20 attacks on healthcare facilities in Iran since March 1.
The situation remains unstable across the region, with global energy markets affected by the ongoing conflict. Countries are working to restore shipments through the Strait of Hormuz, a critical artery for oil and gas flows.
