Iran Unveils 14-Point Plan for Conflict Resolution with US

US President Donald Trump is reviewing a new 14-point proposal from Iran aimed at ending the ongoing war between the two countries. The proposal, which was sent to Pakistan earlier this week, outlines Tehran’s terms for a permanent ceasefire and has been met with skepticism by US officials.

According to Iranian media reports, the proposal responds to a nine-point peace plan submitted by the US, which primarily sought a two-month ceasefire. Iran’s new proposal calls for guarantees against future attacks, a withdrawal of US forces from around Iran, the release of frozen Iranian assets worth billions of dollars, and the lifting of sanctions.

The US president has stated that he is studying the proposal but has expressed doubts about his ability to reach a deal with Iran. Trump has insisted that Iran first end its effective blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, through which a significant portion of global oil and gas exports pass.

Iran’s demands for war reparations and guarantees against future aggression are also major sticking points in the talks. The US has maintained a naval blockade of Iranian ports despite the ceasefire deal, which has heightened tensions between the two countries.

Analysts say that mistrust between the two sides is a significant obstacle to reaching a peace agreement. Paul Musgrave, an associate professor of government at Georgetown University in Qatar, noted that Iran’s proposal appears to have “slightly softened” its stance on certain issues. However, he also emphasized that many of the key demands, including Iran’s right to uranium enrichment and control over shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, remain unchanged.

The ball is now in the US court to choose a path forward, according to Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi. The fate of the proposal remains uncertain as Trump continues to review it.
