Iran vows retaliation against Gulf energy targets following South Pars assault

Iran Threatens Retaliation Against Gulf States Over Israeli Attack on South Pars Gasfield

Iran has issued a statement warning that it will target oil and gas facilities in the Gulf region in retaliation for an Israeli strike on its South Pars gasfield, according to Iranian authorities. The attack occurred earlier this week, with reports indicating that natural gas facilities associated with the field were damaged.

The Ministry of Petroleum confirmed that several facilities were affected but no casualties have been reported. Iranian state media also reported a fire at the gasfield was under control.

In response to the incident, Majed al-Ansari, spokesman for Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, condemned Israel for targeting South Pars, describing it as a “dangerous and irresponsible step”. Al-Ansari stated that the attack constitutes a threat to global energy security and the environment.

Iran has also threatened to target facilities in Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Qatar. The affected facilities include Saudi Arabia’s SAMREF refinery and Jubail petrochemical complex, the UAE’s Al Hosn gasfield, and Qatar’s Ras Laffan refinery and Mesaieed petrochemical complex and holding company.

The incident is part of a broader escalation in tensions between Iran and its regional neighbors, with both sides engaging in retaliatory attacks. The United States has also been involved in strikes on Iranian targets since the conflict began on February 28.

Gulf leaders have repeatedly denounced these attacks as a violation of international law, targeting civilian infrastructure. Saudi Arabia is set to host a meeting of foreign ministers from Arab and Muslim-majority countries later this week to discuss the crisis.
