Tehran Rallies Commemorate 47th Anniversary of Islamic Revolution
Thousands of people gathered in Tehran and other cities across Iran on Wednesday to mark the 47th anniversary of the Islamic revolution. The event was attended by large crowds, who carried portraits of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, as well as Iranian and Palestinian flags.
Demonstrators also displayed anti-American and anti-Israeli imagery, including burning and trampling of both countries’ flags. Some attendees chanted slogans such as “Death to America!” and “Death to Israel!”. Iranian media showed mock coffins with US flags bearing the names of American military commanders, alongside images of Iranian missiles and fragments of downed Israeli drones from last year’s conflict.
The rallies were organized by the government, but not all Iranians support the event. Protests broke out in December over economic issues, including a decline in Iran’s currency value and high inflation. These demonstrations eventually turned into antigovernment protests before being dispersed by security forces.
In addition to the commemorations, Iranian media showcased various images and symbols related to the Islamic revolution and its leaders. The events were widely covered on social media and news outlets.
