Irans Deputy Foreign Minister Arrives in Geneva for Nuclear Talks with US

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi Arrives in Geneva for Nuclear Talks

Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi of Iran has arrived in Geneva, where he will meet with Rafael Grossi, the head of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), before high-stakes talks with the United States on Tuesday. The talks aim to reduce tensions and prevent a new military confrontation between the two countries.

Araghchi stated that he is prepared to engage in discussions with the US, saying “I am in Geneva with real ideas to achieve a fair and equitable deal.” He also emphasized that certain issues are not on the table, including submission before threats. Iranian nuclear experts will accompany Araghchi during his meeting with Grossi.

The IAEA has been seeking access to Iran’s main nuclear facilities, which were damaged during the 12-day war in June. The agency requires an official protocol to inspect highly enriched uranium allegedly buried under the rubble due to concerns about radiation risks.

Araghchi will also meet with his Omani counterpart, Badr bin Hamad al-Busaidi, who mediated the first round of talks between Iran and the US since the war earlier this month. The US has made demands for zero nuclear enrichment, which Iran considers a non-negotiable issue.

The US is deploying additional military assets to the region, including a second aircraft carrier. Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff and his son-in-law Jared Kushner are expected to represent the White House in the Geneva talks.
