Irans Foreign Minister Says Deal with US Is Within Reach

Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has stated that a deal with the United States is “within reach” ahead of talks in Geneva, Switzerland. In a social media statement on Tuesday, Araghchi emphasized the importance of prioritizing diplomacy in reaching an agreement. He also reiterated Iran’s stance on nuclear technology, confirming that his country would not develop a nuclear weapon under any circumstances.

Araghchi will lead Iranian negotiations alongside US envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, who represents US President Donald Trump. The talks are scheduled to take place on Thursday, following the most recent discussions in Geneva. In a statement, Oman hopes to see a “positive push” towards finalizing the deal.

The United States has deployed its largest aircraft carrier, the USS Gerald R Ford, to a NATO base on the Greek island of Crete, en route to the Middle East. Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has also conducted military drills in the southern region, describing it as a “strong fortress.”

According to Al Jazeera reporter Tohid Asadi, the public mood in Iran is complex, with sentiments oscillating between fear of war and hope for diplomacy. The talks are taking place amidst public dissatisfaction, including massive protests that occurred across Iran in December, initially driven by economic hardship.

The US has acknowledged its role in causing a shortage of US dollars in Iran, contributing to severe economic consequences.
