Irans Government Makes Meager Offer Amid Tensions Over Tanking Economy

Tehran, Iran - Security forces raided a hospital in Ilam on Tuesday as part of an effort to quell protests in the city. Amnesty International has stated that this action violates international law.

Protests have been reported across Iran, with demonstrations taking place in various cities, including Abdanan and Tehran. Footage shows large crowds of people, including children and elderly individuals, participating in street protests and chanting slogans. Helicopters were also seen flying overhead during the events.

In Ilam, security forces stormed the Imam Khomeini Hospital to apprehend protesters, according to Amnesty International. The hospital had previously treated wounded protesters who had been injured while gathering at a military base in Malekshahi County earlier this week.

State-linked media reported that multiple people were killed in the shooting incident at the military base. A police officer was also shot dead during clashes with protesters following funeral processions for the deceased.

In Tehran, traders and business owners at the Grand Bazaar clashed with security forces in riot gear, using batons and tear gas. The bazaar’s patrons chanted “freedom” and shouted insults at police officers.

Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei stated that rioters must be held accountable. Chief Justice Gholamhossein Mohseni-Ejei also warned of no mercy for protesters.

Protests have been reported in various cities across Iran, including Lorestan, Kermanshah, Mashhad, Qazvin, Shahrekord, and Hamedan. A foreign-based human rights monitor has reported at least 35 deaths during the protests so far.

The Iranian government has faced criticism over its handling of the economic situation, with high inflation rates affecting essential food items. The country’s President, Masoud Pezeshkian, has stated that plans are being implemented to address the economic crisis.
