Irans IRGC says it carried out attacks on UAE and Bahrain facilities

Iran Conducts Missile and Drone Attacks on Aluminium Facilities in Bahrain and UAE

In a statement released by its state broadcaster IRIB on Sunday morning, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed responsibility for carrying out missile and drone attacks on aluminium facilities in Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates. The targeted sites were reportedly linked to US military operations.

Aluminium Bahrain reported that two employees were injured during the attack on its facility, while Emirates Global Aluminium stated that one of its sites in Abu Dhabi suffered significant damage, resulting in six injuries. The IRGC attributed the strikes as retaliation for a recent US-Israeli attack on Iranian industrial infrastructure.

According to estimates, approximately 4-9% of the global aluminium supply originates from this region, making the attacks potentially significant to the global market. Al Jazeera’s Zein Basravi reported that the Middle East conflict has been ongoing since February, with Bahrain and other Gulf countries frequently targeted by Iranian missile and drone strikes.

In addition to the attacks on Bahrain and UAE facilities, a worker in Oman was injured in a drone attack at the Salalah port on Saturday. Danish container shipping group Maersk temporarily halted operations at the port following the assault. The Omani Foreign Ministry condemned the attacks and stated that authorities were investigating the incidents’ sources and motives.

Saudi Arabia’s air defence systems intercepted and destroyed 10 drones over the past hours, while the Kuwaiti National Guard shot down four drones after air raid sirens sounded in the Gulf nation for a second time within hours.
