Iran’s Khondab Heavy Water Reactor Shut Down After Israeli Strike
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has confirmed that Iran’s Khondab heavy water production plant is currently not operational following a significant damage caused by an Israeli strike on March 27. The facility, which is located at the Khondab Nuclear Power Plant, was targeted along with other key infrastructure sites.
According to the IAEA, the reactor, which does not contain any declared nuclear material, suffered severe damage as a result of the attack. As a result, the plant’s operations have been suspended indefinitely.
The IAEA has stated that it is currently assessing the situation and will provide further updates on the status of the facility once more information becomes available. The agency’s primary concern at this time is ensuring the safety and security of the surrounding area.
It is worth noting that the Khondab heavy water production plant was previously reported to be operational, but its shutdown has been confirmed by the IAEA following the Israeli strike. The exact extent of the damage caused by the attack remains unclear, but officials have stated that it was significant enough to render the facility unable to operate.
The incident highlights the ongoing tensions between Iran and Israel in the region, with both countries having a long history of military conflicts.
