Israel Approves Multibillion-Dollar Deal for Advanced Fighter Jets
The Ministry of Defence has announced that Israel’s Ministerial Committee on Procurement has given final approval for a multibillion-dollar deal to purchase two new combat squadrons of F-35 and F-15IA fighter jets from US manufacturers Lockheed Martin and Boeing. The agreement, valued at approximately $119 billion, is part of a larger programme aimed at bolstering the country’s armed forces.
According to Defence Ministry Director General Amir Baram, the deal will enable Israel to secure its military edge 10 years into the future. The ongoing conflict with Iran has reinforced the importance of advanced air power in the region, he stated.
Under the agreement, Israel will acquire a fourth F-35 squadron from Lockheed Martin and an additional second squadron of F-15IA fighter jets from Boeing. The deal includes 25 new F-15IAs, as previously announced, with an option for 25 more.
Israeli officials have expressed confidence in the capabilities of their pilots, who are prepared to operate in Iranian airspace if required. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that the purchase will reinforce Israel’s air superiority, citing recent military operations against Iran.
Defence Minister Israel Katz emphasized the significance of the new aircraft in enhancing Israeli military dominance and integrating advanced technologies, including autonomous flight capabilities and next-generation defence systems. The deal is expected to be finalized with the US government and military in the coming stages.
