Israeli Forces Launch Large-Scale Operation in Hebron
A joint statement issued by the Israeli army and internal security service, Shin Bet, confirmed a military operation underway in Hebron, southern occupied West Bank. The operation, which began on Monday, involves hundreds of soldiers and heavy machinery.
According to reports from the scene, the city’s southern districts have been placed under lockdown, with an intensive deployment of occupation forces, including bulldozers and tracked armoured vehicles. Video footage verified by local sources shows Israeli forces closing a roundabout with cement blocks and earth mounds.
The operation aims to confiscate weapons in the Jebel Johar area, according to the army. Soldiers have also been installing new metal barriers, which may indicate a long-term tightening of control over the city.
Local news agency Wafa reported at least seven arrests during the raid. The operation is taking place near the Ibrahimi Mosque, following recent decisions by Israel to strip Palestinian authority over the site. Management of the mosque is now being transferred to the Israeli Civil Administration.
The incident follows a series of events in the West Bank since October 2023, when an Israeli military operation on Gaza resulted in significant losses for Palestinians. According to official Palestinian sources, more than 1,080 Palestinians have been killed, about 11,000 injured, and some 20,500 arrested in the region.
