Israeli Military Issues Displacement Orders to Residents in Southern Lebanon
The Israeli military has issued new displacement orders to residents in several towns and villages in southern Lebanon, including areas north of the Litani River. The order, posted on social media by an Israeli military spokesman, instructs residents to evacuate their homes immediately and move at least 1,000 meters into open areas for safety.
The warning affects more than 10 villages and towns, including those in the Nabatieh district. Lebanon’s National News Agency reported that Israeli strikes have occurred across southern Lebanon, including on some of the affected areas. The displacement order was issued despite a fragile ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon, which has been in place since April 17.
The US-brokered ceasefire aims to halt violence between Hezbollah and Israel’s military. However, tensions remain high, with reports of drone attacks and soldier casualties in the area. The Israeli military chief of staff recently stated that any threat to Israeli communities or forces would be eliminated.
Lebanese President Joseph Aoun has called for Israel to fully implement the ceasefire before direct peace negotiations can take place. Al Jazeera reported that the US-brokered ceasefire “exists only in name” due to ongoing Israeli military operations in the region. The Ministry of Public Health reported at least 10 people killed in Israeli attacks across Lebanon on Saturday, bringing the total death toll since the conflict escalated on March 2 to 2,659.
The displacement orders have been issued for three towns that are receiving them for the first time, including some areas north of the Litani River. This marks a significant expansion of Israel’s area of operations in southern Lebanon.
