Israel launches airstrikes on Iranian oil facilities in ongoing conflict

Tehran and Alborz Experience Large Fires Following Israeli Air Strikes

A series of air strikes targeting oil storage facilities and an oil production transfer centre in Tehran and Alborz has resulted in significant fires and damage. The attacks, which occurred on Saturday, have killed at least four people, according to reports from the Fars news agency.

The strikes hit four oil storage facilities and an oil production transfer centre in Tehran and the province of Alborz, including the Aghdasieh oil warehouse, the Tehran refinery, the Shahran oil depot, and an oil depot in Karaj city. Witnesses reported that oil from the Shahran depot had leaked into the streets.

Iranian state media described the attacks as a joint operation by Israel and the United States, with the Iranian government stating that the strikes targeted “military infrastructure”. The Israeli government stated that it struck fuel storage facilities in Tehran used to operate military equipment.

Reports from Al Jazeera indicate that the attacks have sparked widespread concern about the environmental impact of the strikes. Tohid Asadi, a reporter based in Tehran, described seeing black raindrops on his windows and warned of a high risk of being surrounded by toxic air.

The attacks are part of an ongoing conflict between Israel and Iran, which has resulted in significant loss of life on both sides. The number of casualties is estimated to be over 1,300 in Iran and around 300 in Lebanon.
