Israel reportedly kills hundreds of Palestinians linked to Gaza journalists

Palestinian Journalists Syndicate Reports on Israeli Attacks on Families of Journalists

The Palestinian Journalists Syndicate has released a report stating that Israel has killed at least 706 family members of Palestinian journalists since the start of its conflict in Gaza in October 2023. The syndicate’s Freedoms Committee reported that these attacks are part of a deliberate strategy to silence Palestinian reporting.

According to the report, Israeli forces have targeted the families of journalists as part of their actions in Gaza. The committee stated that this represents a “qualitative shift” in Israel’s behavior, moving from individual targeting to collective punishment. The attacks have resulted in the deaths of at least 706 family members, with 436 reported in 2023, 203 in 2024, and at least 67 this year.

The report also noted that Israeli forces have killed hundreds of children, women, and elderly individuals due to their connection to journalism. In some cases, entire families have been wiped out, leaving journalists alive to bear witness to the annihilation.

The syndicate warned that these attacks have resulted in severe psychological harm for surviving journalists, including trauma, family breakdowns, and crushing guilt. Many journalists have been forced to flee or suspend their work due to the weight of Israel’s continuing violence.

According to Shireen.ps, a monitoring website, nearly 300 journalists and media workers have been killed in Gaza during the conflict over 26 months. The report also noted that media freedom groups have condemned the Israeli attacks on journalists, but the killings have proceeded with impunity.
