Israel reports daily casualties among Lebanese civilians during ceasefire

Save the Children Reports on Israeli Attacks in Lebanon

A report by Save the Children has revealed statistics on the impact of Israeli attacks on children in Lebanon since the temporary ceasefire came into effect on April 16. According to the charity, at least 22 children have been killed and 89 injured in the first 25 days of the ceasefire. This brings the total number of children killed in Israeli strikes since March 2 to almost 200.

The report cites figures from Lebanon’s Health Ministry, stating that Israel has conducted air strikes on over 1,100 sites across Lebanon since mid-April. Save the Children’s director for Lebanon, Nora Ingdal, notes that attacks on civilians have continued under different forms, with colleagues reporting increased intensity in some areas.

As a result of the conflict, more than one million people have been displaced, and the number of families seeking temporary housing in collective shelters has risen by five percent. Currently, approximately 125,000 people, including 44,800 children, are living in such shelters due to overcrowding and inadequate sanitation facilities.

Lebanon and Israel are set to hold direct talks on Thursday and Friday in Washington, DC, aimed at ending the war. Both countries have committed to disarming Hezbollah, a key member of Tehran’s “axis of resistance”. However, Hezbollah has stated that its arsenal should not be part of the negotiations.

A 10-year-old girl named Tala was quoted by Save the Children as saying she misses school and her village, and longs to return home. The charity emphasizes the need for a permanent and definitive ceasefire with no violations to ensure children’s safety.
