Israeli Air Strike Kills at Least 10 Near Maghazi Refugee Camp
A recent air strike by Israel has resulted in the deaths of at least 10 people and injuries to several others near a school housing displaced Palestinians in central Gaza. The incident occurred on Monday, following clashes between Palestinian residents and members of an Israeli-backed militia.
According to health officials, the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital reported that at least 10 people were killed and dozens injured, including six in critical condition. Witnesses stated that Israeli drones fired two missiles, killing at least 10 people and wounding several others.
The leader of the Israeli-backed militia released a video claiming that they had killed five Hamas members during the clashes. However, Al Jazeera was unable to independently verify this claim. There was no immediate comment from Hamas.
The Maghazi refugee camp, located in central Gaza, has been designated as a “safe zone” by the Israeli military since the start of Israel’s two-year conflict on Gaza. The camp, which previously had around 30,000 residents, saw its population more than triple during the first months of war.
Despite being labeled a “safe zone,” the Israeli military targeted the Maghazi camp in numerous deadly strikes. In December 2023, an attack killed over 100 people, mostly displaced women and children. Since a fragile ceasefire was reached in October, Israel has continued to carry out attacks on sites across the Gaza Strip, including the Maghazi camp.
Earlier today, a member of staff from the World Health Organization (WHO) was killed in Gaza, and several others were injured when the Israeli army fired on their vehicle.
