Israeli attacks in Lebanon result in deaths of at least six civilians

Israeli Air Attacks Kill at Least Six People in Southern Lebanon

At least six people have been killed and three others wounded in air attacks carried out by Israel in southern and eastern Lebanon, according to reports from the Lebanese state-run National News Agency (NNA). The attacks occurred on Wednesday, in violation of a ceasefire brokered by the United States last month.

According to NNA, an Israeli air strike targeted the town of Zellaya in eastern Lebanon, killing Ali Qassem Ahmad, the head of Zellaya’s municipal council, and three family members. Additionally, at least four people were killed and three others wounded in another attack on the western Bekaa town.

Israel also launched attacks using fighter jets and drones, targeting the village of Mayfadoun, which resulted in two deaths. The Lebanese armed group Hezbollah claimed responsibility for an attack targeting a gathering of Israeli soldiers.

The Israeli military has issued forced displacement orders for 12 villages in southern Lebanon, warning residents to remain at least one kilometre from their homes. Most of the affected villages are located north of the Litani River and were not previously under Israeli military occupation.

Hezbollah stated that it had engaged Israeli forces, claiming responsibility for an attack targeting a gathering of Israeli soldiers. The Israeli military has continued to expand its operations in southern Lebanon, with the latest forced displacement order including western parts of the Bekaa Valley for the first time since the truce came into effect on April 17.

The ceasefire was established following a conflict between Israel and Hezbollah that began on March 2 after Hezbollah fired rockets at Israel. Since then, Israeli attacks in Lebanon have resulted in approximately 2,700 deaths and over 1.2 million displacements.
