Israeli forces fatally shoot Palestinian child amid escalating Gaza tensions

Israel’s Restrictions on Aid Deliveries Leave Gaza Children Vulnerable

The Israeli military has killed a Palestinian child in northern Gaza, according to a medical source at al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City. The child, identified as Youssef Ahmed al-Shandaghli, was killed by Israeli forces in the Jabalia an-Nazla area. The circumstances surrounding his death are not yet clear.

The Israeli military has continued to carry out attacks across Gaza despite a ceasefire agreement that came into force in October. According to reports, more than 400 Palestinians have been killed and many more injured as a result of these attacks.

Israel’s restrictions on aid deliveries to Gaza have worsened the already dire conditions in the territory. The enclave has been largely reduced to rubble due to Israel’s military actions. Local media outlets reported that a young girl died in central Gaza’s Nuseirat refugee camp due to extreme cold, while another fire broke out in a tent sheltering displaced people in the Yarmouk area of central Gaza City.

Hundreds of thousands of Palestinian families are residing in overcrowded displacement camps and makeshift shelters across Gaza. The United Nations and humanitarian agencies have urged the Israeli authorities to allow tents, blankets, and other supplies into Gaza to help families withstand dangerous winter conditions. However, Israel has ignored these calls, despite growing international condemnation.

The UN’s child rights agency (UNICEF) reported that at least five Palestinian children had died in Gaza in December due to a lack of adequate shelter. The agency has called for the urgent entry of life-saving and life-sustaining supplies into Gaza.

Israel has also implemented a ban on international aid groups working to support Palestinians in Gaza and the occupied West Bank. Thirty-seven aid groups have had their operating licences revoked for failing to comply with new government regulations.
